This past Sunday we were honored to attend the official Memorial Day Ceremony for Belgium at Flanders Field American Cemetery and Memorial once again.
A delegation of Fire observers vzw rendered a salute to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice during World War 1 when brave young US soldiers came over to foreign soil to liberate Belgium and its citizens from absolute evil.
Flanders Field American Cemetery and Memorial is the only US WW I cemetery in Belgium and the smallest of 8 in whole Europe. 368 Service men were laid to rest here, not that far away from the battlefields where most of them died for our freedom…
The Chargé d' Affaires for the US Embassy to Belgium, a representative for the King of Belgium, numerous Belgian politicians, Ambassadors from allied nations, US military commanding officers for Europe and NATO, military and civil agencies and entities were present along with hundreds of citizens of Waregem and neighbouring towns and cities.
That same evening, our Fire Observers delegation also attended the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres
