Code of Conduct for Fire Observers Program Participants
- Professionalism and Respect
- Treat all colleagues, instructors, supervisors, and local residents with respect and courtesy. As a visitor you are under the command of the officer in charge of the station assigned.
- Maintain a professional demeanor at all times, both on and off duty.
- As a participant you are a representative of your own fire department and the Fire Observers organization
- Safety First
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and guidelines provided by the host fire department and the Fire Observers staff.
- Report any unsafe conditions or incidents immediately to your assigned supervisor and/or station officer.
- Confidentiality
- Respect the confidentiality of any sensitive information you may encounter during your internship.
- Photography and video recording of incidents is not permitted unless approved by the commanding officer present. Photographs and videos may not contain any identifiable information. All photographs taken and videos recorded may only be used for training purposes within your own fire department
- Do not share any details about incidents or operations without explicit permission.
- Cultural Sensitivity
- Be aware of and respect the local customs and cultural practices.
- Avoid any behavior that could be considered disrespectful or offensive to the local community.
- Substance Use
- The use of alcohol or drugs during duty hours is strictly prohibited.
- Any consumption of drugs is strictly prohibited.
- Any off-duty consumption of alcohol should be done responsibly and in moderation. Upon return to the fire station no ride-alongs are permitted until any possible sign of intoxication has worn off.
- Attendance and Punctuality
- Attend all scheduled activities and training sessions punctually.
- Notify your supervisor in advance if you are unable to attend due to illness or other valid reasons.
- Dress Code
- Wear appropriate attire as specified by the host fire department.
- Ensure your uniform and equipment are clean and in good condition.
- Communication
- Maintain open and honest communication with your supervisors and colleagues.
- Address any concerns or issues promptly and professionally.
- Environmental Responsibility
- Follow all guidelines for environmental protection and sustainability.
- Minimize waste and use resources responsibly.
- Compliance with Laws
- Abide by all local laws and regulations during your stay.
- Any legal issues must be reported to your supervisor immediately.
In case of misconduct
In case of intolerable behavior, such as stealing, fighting or drinking during our stay at the hosting Fire Department your visit may be terminated immediately by either the hosting Fire Department or the Fire Observers organization.
In this case an alternative accommodation or an early return flight back will be arranged on the participants own expenses.
The Fire Observers organization will also inform the Fire Department of the participant of the encountered issue(s).
